In 1956, the river Ob was superimposed by a dam of new hydroelectric power station near Novosibirsk city. Thus an artificial reservoir was created called now the Ob sea. Its length is 200 km, and its width is about 20 km.
During summer it is one of the most popular getaways for Novosibirsk residents: numerous yachts and boats dot the surface of the sea, beaches are full of people.
